A Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) is a training program for professionals to learn process improvement and how to guide an organization through a process to project completion. The CMMI Institute offers this course with additional training to prepare you for certification.

The five CMMI maturity levels are:

Initial. Processes are seen as unpredictable, poorly controlled, and reactive. ...
Managed. Processes are characterized by projects and are frequently reactive.
Defined. Processes are well-characterized and well-understood. ...
Quantitatively Managed. ...
Optimizing.

The CMMI combined 3 models into a single framework for collections of best practices in process improvement. Three models of CMMI are for development organizations (CMMI-DEV), acquisition organizations (CMMI-ACQ), and service-type organizations (CMMI-SVC).
